One of the most interesting panel discussions I attended was this event which I’ve embedded below looking at role experimentation in journalism.

What I’ve discovered since training in journalism, is that you cant look at journalism as a separate entity. I’ve realised that you have to see journalism in a wider context. It’s not just about writing and telling your stories.

For the modern journalist particularly in the digital era, you have to understand the business of journalism, you have to understand the role of technology and how it impacts on how journalism is undertaken.

 

This event was another reminder of seeing journalism in a broader context. When I first starting my journalism training, experimentation and innovation weren’t concepts I automatically associated with journalism and publishing. After sitting in on this discussion I realize how important it is to think creatively in terms of innovating and experimenting with how you tell a story.
